You know what they say: “time flies when you’re having fun!” That’s especially easy when you’re traveling in a new or used RV. It’s also easy to accidentally overlook regular RV maintenance because you’re so busy having fun! But it’s also true what they say: “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” By staying on top of your RV’s service needs, you can help avoid costly repairs. Check out our RV tips and recommended RV service schedule below!

RV Tips

Every Single Road Trip

Some tasks need to be done every time you set out – and the good news is that they’re easy to do! Check the following every single time before leaving:

  • Roof: Clean the roof from any debris like small branches or animal droppings.
  • Tires: check the pressure, and look for cracks or other wear and tear, making repairs as needed.
  • For motorhomes, check under the hood to make sure all hoses are connected and for any leaks. Check the fluid levels at this time too.

Once a Month

Your once-a-month RV maintenance tasks should include:

  • Lubricating the slides.
  • The A/C (during warmer months when you’re using the A/C): clean filters, intake, and vents. Replace filters if needed.
  • Checking sides, seals, and roof for cracks. Repair any you find immediately. Water and insects can get inside even the smallest cracks and cause significant (and costly) damage.

Twice a Year

There are a few tasks that need to be done every 6 months, including:

  • Jacks, hitches, and hinges lubricated
  • Check and change fluids and filters. If you’re driving a motorhome, the oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. Depending on how much you travel, it might need to be done quarterly or even more frequently.

Once a Year

Annual tasks for your RV include the following:

  • Propane inspection
  • Winterization/dewinterization
  • Brakes serviced
  • Exterior resealing (if needed)
  • Water system flushed and clean

The good news is that our RV service department can handle any RV maintenance task you don’t want to DIY. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
